Does anyone know if hospitals in the US are non profit organizations? |
Does anyone know if hospitals in the US are non profit organizations? It depends upon the hospital; some are non-profit while others are definitely in it for the profit!! If you have a specific hospital in mind, you can easily check it with the Joint Commission on Health Care, the national accrediting body of hospitals in the US--assuming that we are talking about US hospitals of course. There are both for profit and non-profit hospitals in th U.S. I live in Chicago and two of our best hospitals are still non profit. Unfortunately, more and more hospitals have gone from non profit to for profit in recent years. This is a huge contributing factor to the USA's health care problems. Here is a short list of priorities that I believe are essential for health care reform: 1. Non for profit hospitals - ALL hospitals should be required to & given a reasonable timeframe to convert from profit to non profit. 2. CEO pay - CEO pay for ANY company or organization that has anything to do with healthcare should be capped. Both. Many of the For-Profit hospitals have non-profit foundations or organizations affiliated with them. |
