What is the difference between government jobs and private jobs?

which one is better and what is the difference in benefits

Summary of the more distinctive differences

Govt Job
1) likely to have fixed working hours
2) reasonable or low wages (unless you are high ranking, then it's a different story)
3) fair benefits
4) lots of administative barriers just to get things done
5) have to "go by the book", even if it seems inefficient and ineffective

Commercial job
1) Irregular working hrs, lots of unpaid OT
2) can get paid highly and promote on fast track (comes with a price)
3) good/fair/no benefits (can vary)
4) can really learn a lot (often through a lot of knocks too)
5) more emphasis on ideas that work
Depends on who your working for the government has excellent benefits, but if you find a good company to work for they might be just as good or better. Depends on your field. Best thing to do is look at the career your looking to pursue and start researching various companies and government positions find out median starting salaries and get the benefits info.
The difference between a government job and a private job is that a government job is intended to provide a service by some level of the government to a target population without generating a profit. A private job's aim is to generate a profit for the owners and/or shareholders.
