Is it better to have a State Job? |
I am looking into getting a state job because I want to work for children and youth services. I am going to school to be a child psychologist and I think working for the state even on an administrative level will get me closer to where I want to be. When I get my degree I would like to work for the government. I heard that people who work with the state have good benefits. Does the state of Delaware & Pennsylvania have good tuition reimbursement, health care and retirement benefits? What are the pluses and negatives of having a state job? Working for the state has great benefits and usually good pay. Once you get "your foot in the door" the opportunites are great. Can't really think of negatives. Source(s): MN state employee http://ben.omb.delaware.gov/ http://www.job-hunt.org/jobs/pennsylvani... Both these sites may be of help to you. I work for a non profit organization funded by the state of KY and the benefits are great. Mon thru Fri work schedule, all holidays off, no overtime... State jobs offer excellent benefits and job security. The tradeoffs are that you don't always make as much as you would in the private sector (or, in your case, private practice), promotion can be more difficult, and you don't have as much freedom to pursue projects without going through several levels of approval. Pluses are that the benefits and pay are great but the work is extremely hard and keeps you very busy and they want you on your toes. So if you're one to think that hmmmm I don't feel like going to work today I will just call off for no reason the state is not for you. Worked for State of Delaware. DE is lame. |
