How much will it cost to start a non-profit organization? |
I'm the founder and leader of a small Christian group that works with "at risk" children in the community. I have been doing this for 7 years and now I want to make it an organization (non-profit). I just don't know where or how to start. I have the idea, mission statement, concept of what is needed to function but not the knowledge of how to get it up and going. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks I assume you are wanting to have a tax-exempt organization, not just non-profit. See http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,i... Good luck. contact an attourney. It will cost a couple of thousand to get the paperwork done by an attourney... but it will be done right. It does not cost much to start one up depending on what the organization is going to be doing and what kind of methods of funding you are going to be setting up. You will have to get some legal paperwork done by an attorney and a business description and plan as well to be able to show what you are doing as a non profit organization. The following link will help you get all of the information you need to research the issue in depth to make your descision. Good Luck to you !! http://www.lib.msu.edu/harris23/grants/z... I would google the different types of non-profits and legal standings. It doesn't necessarily "cost" anything, however, to be able to use non-profit rates for different things like mail, the internet, etc, you must legally file to fall into a category like 401c3 which I think is for Educational Programs. Or I would look into a pro bono or legal aid attorney in your area who could give you more info. go to legalinfo.com to ge that answer its cheap there and they have lawyers that will help you fill out the paperwork. |
