How to get out of the postal job scam? |
Well, my dumb sister fell for the postal job scam. She called an 800 number in the classifieds and handed over nearly $130 for a test study guide. Is there anything she can do to get out of it and get her money back, or report it? Contact your state's Attorney General's office. My state has a department in that office who handle scams such as that. Advise your sister to contact her bank, the same people may try to debit her account on a monthly basis unless she contacts them to put a stop to it. Did she write a cheque? If it is not too late, you can go to the bank and have them stop the cheque from going through. You need to pay a fee for this, but I am sure it is less than 130.00 If they provided study information, it may be a scam, but sounds like a legal scam. Report it to the postal service they may be able to shut them down, but most likely her money is gone for ever. she's screwed...and hopefully a little smarter now. I've seen those before, and I thought it was a scam too. But apparently it's legit because a friend of my sisters tried it or knew someone who did and I think she got her money back when she was hired. But I still think it's pretty shitty that they make you pay in the first place and on top of that only give your money back if you are hired. You could try contacting the better business bureau. Yes it is a scam -- you can get the study guides at the library for free. The postal service has nothing to do with this scam. You will not get your money back if you are hired like someone else said. And telling the USPS about it will do nothing either except they will get a chuckle out of it and think you are stupid. All you can do is report it, should have done it when it happened. don't think you will ever see your money, I hope you canceled your debit card, Remember they have the number. Well then do it NOW. |
