My husband was unofficially hired as a firefighter/EMT at a VA medical center.? |
He has completed his physical and background check, both he passed with flying colors, but now we are waiting for fingerprints to come back... they say they are back logged(4 weeks waiting) and because he is accepting this job from out of state that they have to have the fingerprints completed before he can start... does this sound normal? how long do the fingerprints usually take?? The Chief keeps telling him to hang in their but our lives are on hold, are we moving and when?? Help! I doubt the feds will offer him the position and have him start contingent upon the successful completion of the fingerprint background check so you will probably just have to wait it out. He may want to suggest this option to them though. If they are paying for relocation I doubt they will do it though. If you know your husband will pass the check then relax and pack slowly. :) Good luck. I had a background check with fingerprinting when I went to work at a bank. They sent the fingerprints out to the FBI. We (the new employees) were told that it does in fact sometimes take a month or two. They let us work in the meantime though. No one had an issue, that I ever heard of. This makes sense though, if you think about it. The FBI is trying to solve crimes. So running prints for a job check is not a huge priority for them. That length of a delay is fairly typical. Unfortunately. If he's been made the job offer contingent on passing this check and you know there is nothing they are going to find - an hopefully he has told you EVERYTHING about his past that could affect this, you probably have nothing to worry about except getting though this period. While I don't see this happening, he might inquire if there is a temporary position he can fill that doesn't require the check first. Something administrative for example. The separation would be difficult but he could go ahead and start getting things set up in the new location and have you follow later. Good luck; we need lots of folks with his training and skills. |
