Does anyone know the hiring criteria for a data entry job at the US Post Office? |
I've passed the typing test and the civil service exam with flying colors, my eligibility status is "Exceptionally High" according to my test results, but now I have to do the interview. I don't do drugs, but I have a retail theft charge from about 7 years ago when I was young and dumb. I've had a steady job and school for 6 almost 7 years now, too. Now, they go out of their way to say "We understand adults have had problems in the past, certainly this does not bar you from consideration" but I'm wondering what my actual chances are with a high 80's test score and great typing test result? Do they scrutinize one indiscretion to the point of denying employment? I mean we are talking about the government here. Any answer from someone with experience with this (either you or someone you know) would be greatly appreciated. Like a previous poster said, I doubt your theft charge matters. They said to us, "Don't leave anything out on your application, because we'll find it anyway." But they didn't seem to make a big deal of what they'd find. If you get the job, you'll be happy about how much you'll make at the time, but you won't have any realistic chance for advancement, as promotions really don't happen at the RECs. The one I'm at has promoted once in 11 years. I ran into one person that has been there all 11 years as a TE and makes the same amount of money as somebody who just walked in the door yesterday. are you talking about working at a Remote Encoding Center as a TE (transitional employee)? If so, it probably doesn't matter. It's a revolving door. |
