911 Operator/Police Communications Operator? |
I've received a letter yesterday saying that my application was accepted and that I now have a written exam scheduled for a certain day this month. Any tips or suggestions on how to prepare to an exam like this? Written tests for the 911 Telecommunicator position vary from agency to agency. Don't waste money on books that won't help you at all. The written test may be a general knowledge test that covers math, spelling, vocabulary, etc.... Or it may be more job specific that covers map reading, multitasking, scenario questions, etc.... Or even a combination of both. Or it could be a computer based testing that covers dispatching at a console. Just make sure you have a good meal before you go in and get a good nights sleep. Then do your best. Source(s): I am a 911 Telecommunicator. There are actually study guides on the shelves of bookstores and/or libraries for those looking to obtain a position as an Emergency/911 Dispatcher. Perhaps you can look on www.amazon.com and look at some reviews of some of those books. I'm sure that one also needs to remain cool under pressure as well as being compassionate and empathetic to those that are very distraught. |
