Volunteering/Community service? |
Serious replys on pls from disabled persons, seniors, students and everyone else. Am writing an article for eSight.org on the following question: Has volunteering ever helped you "get your foot in the door" with a nonprofit agency and lead to employment for you? Or have you ever volunteered to work for free to prove to a potential employer that you have the needed skills to do a job? Please talk about your volunteering or community service experiences and what you gained from them . Thanks. Voulenteering has really helped me with school and scholarships and such. It gave me alot of positive experience early in my life. Ive done a bunch of community service from collecting shoes for children to working in a homeless shelter. I walked the walk for hunger, unfortunately only made it to 13.5 miles. Ive worked at Heifer International as well. I dont think its going to help me get a job but its just really rewarding in general and colleges like to hear about my voulenteering. I really enjoy volunteering and get much more back then I give. It's that rewarding. I don't know first-hand from 'getting one's foot in the door' by starting out as a volunteer, but it certainly is a viable option as one can prove how loyal and dedicated he or she is to the organization and that he or she is a selfless individual as well. |
