I'd like to get a job in a shelter helping others? |
However, I have worked in the business and IT world, hence i have no previous experience. I am worried that they will not take me seriously because the pay for one of these positions is lower, and I am also going back to school to get a teaching degree. This is something I would really liek to do. What can I do to sell myself? What are positions I should be looking for? Been there done that for 14 years. You'll be questioned intensely as to why the change. Working with kids is a highly sensitive area; especially if you are coming from a totally different work background. If you have little training, get ready for some of the roughest and toughest situations. There are other areas in social services working with adults too. This population is easier to work with and less stressful. Start at the YMCA. Consider volunteering! Looks good on your resume, and will be rewarding, as well as connecting with others with the same interests, an networking with future job prospects. SUFK (Stand Up For Kids is ALWAYS looking for Outreach workers!) Check your local state/city for http://www.standupforkids.org/ http://www.standupforkids.org/ |
