Trying to start a non-profit org?

I am interested in starting a non-profit organization and looking for people to help get this off the ground.
This is pretty much just an idea but I am very passionate about it.
Targeted mainly to social work, sociology, business, or human services majors but ANYONE is welcome.

Mission Statement:
To make a difference in the lives of school-aged children and assist in the abolishment of restrictions associated with class or monetary status by promoting awareness of all available mean of financial assistance starting at the earliest age possible, primarily through education and information.

Please contact me if this is something that interests you, for more information, or with suggestions!

Thank you!

This is not really a question.

Your mission statement needs work. It reads more like a vision statement in that it is very broad. Your mission statement should really tell the reader succinctly what your organization will do. I'm left wondering who the education and information will be directed toward (the youth, their family, society as a whole?). Also providing education and information about financial assistance is usually not the problem it is abot helping clients qualify for the assistance (walking through the maze of qualifications). You have a typo in your mission statement (I think you mean "means").

DA
Suggestion, it is not that easy. First you have to apply for non profit status and see if you idea flies.
I think your aim is too verbose.
Do you mean you want to provide scholarships for poor children?
I am taking no nonprofit class at present. I think your mission statement is too long. Ask yourself the question: will all my staff be able to remember this mission statement within a few days, if the answer is no then the mission statement is too long or complex.
I did a school presentation on starting a non profit organization and this site gave me alot of valuable information http://www.canonprofits.org/resources/st... There are 12 steps in opening your non profit. Email if you need more info. Good Luck.

I think it would be better to approach already existing organizations that work with children and suggest raising money for a position to teach children financial management and entrepreneurship. Those programs already exist out there, depending on where you live. It's a lot easier to raise money for a new program at an established organization than it is to create an entirely new nonprofit.
