I have a strong background in writing and advocacy/nonprofit work, but was downsized due to budget cuts in 2005. I have been struggling ever since to come back on top, even going as far as applying for entry-level position to get my foot in the door because I'm not exactly entry-level, but not upper management level either. I am in a wheelchair and I'm either viewed as overqualified to some or my disability is all that is seen by others. How do I break these barriers and let employers know I really am the person for the job and want to work for them? I understand that some jobs I've applied for have sought more qualified applicants, but I just need a boost to really sell myself better. I've received career counseling, revamped the resume, put together an excellent brag book of work samples and I'm still hitting road blocks. Help!!
Have you gone to Rehabilitative Services? They hire vendors to help you look for a job. They may even have some contacts to help you get your foot in the door. |
