Has anyone ever worked for the National Institutes of Health (NIH)? |
Hi, I had a job interview with the NIH a couple of weeks ago. The position is a supportive staff for a program director. The interview went pretty well and the people all seemed very nice. I wonder if any of you has any experience working there, and if so, how do you feel about it? How is the potential for promotion/ advancement if you're not a PhD? I have Not worked there. But i have a couple of friend who worked there. Congratulations to you. The potential for promotion is very good there. Best of Luck !! Sorry, haven't worked there, but the potential for promotion at any company depends on the number and types of positions that become available versus the positions for which you are eligible. If you are coming into the org. at the low or middle range of a position, then you have room for advancement easily enough. But If you are coming in at the top end of a position range, and the only next 'step up' is a positon that requires a PhD, then you most likely will not even be considered. If you are coming in as 'support staff' and all the program staff have higher or specific degrees, then you will be able to advance as far as admin positions, but you won't be able to cross over to program positions until you get the required training. |
