If you are interviewing for a job in law enforcement can they look at your medical records? Can/do they ask?

I am asking because I have been prescribed antidepressants and mood stabilizers in the past. I am concerned that it will affect my application/interview negatively. Also, I am going to a therapist to talk and need to get a 'diagnosis' for insurance purposes. If you are going to see a counselor/therapist my insurance company needs a diagnosis to determine how many sessions they will pay for. If I am 'diagnosed' with depression or something will this negatively effect things? Thanks!

Yeah, I would hope that would keep you out! We don't need any cops with mental problems! Sorry, but the truth is the truth! They will have to have your consent to look at your medical history though.
They can do better than that, they can require a physical. Be honest with them, always the best policy.
It may. They can ask, and they will ask. They must know, are you medically capable of doing the job from a medical point of view. This is an essential part of the hiiring process.
Theoretically it is illegal for them to snoop to hard into your medical history which should include your therapy. They do however have a very comprehensive interview process with a lie detector for certain positions (correction, police officer, etc...) I have had a few friends take it and they say because of the pure volume of questions you can't really get away with anything. Though I have read that if you take a vicoden before the test you can lie with ease.
Serious day 9/11
They will be asking you these question anyway and they will likely give you a polygraph. They will ask if you have been diagnosed with depression or any other mental issues. They will also want to know what drugs you are on and take blood and/or urine.

Applying for a police job allows them to look at you more in depth than other jobs because they are giving you a gun with the intent to shoot American citizens. They want to make sure you shoot people when your supposed to and not just for fun.

As for the polygraph it is only as good as you think it is. The first half of the polygraph they try to tell you how it is flawless. I can and have lied on them and once you realize it is a flawed test it is easy.
