Does nursing toughen you up? |
Does nursing toughen you up? im 18 and have a 'timid' aura..im starting my vocational school tomorrow to be a nurse....i had an aunt that was once timid and now became aggressive after 20 years of nursing...does nursing really toughen you up? i want to be a nurse, just quite worried im not that 'toughie'... you get used to the stuff that used to make you sqeamish.. It is just like every experience in the world...All depends on the person. The experiences nursing brings is unique. Personally, my experiences as a nurse has made me a stronger, yet a more understanding person. I'm stronger in a sense that I can tolerate and cope with way much more than before I was a nurse. I'm no more or less aggressive, just better adapted to life, and nursing. You will also grow, learn, and change as your experiences guide you. I wouldn't waste any thought worrying... most nurses i know are mean and cold blooded when it comes to being a rest home nurse . off the job there ok I would imagine (not being a nurse) that it not only toughens you up but softens you up as well in all capacities. sadly being a nurse makes you a little hard. We have to see such horrible things that we make an emotional wall to help us deal with difficult things. You don't need to be "tough", the field does it for you. |
