Choosing between LVN and RN.? |
I know, you will say just go for RN. But, what are reasons to pursue either career. Positives, negatives of the career. Anything. I want to pursue a career as a RN ,but lately i been .. ?paranoid? due to a 5 and a half week anatomy course( the summer after highschool graduation) and it completly threw my confidence, career choice,(everthing) out of wack. If i become a LVN, i will be happy with that( content) I would probably later want to pursue a career as a RN If I pursue a career as a RN right now, im scared of failing, and not having anythign to fall back on. Good money to me is anything over $12( raise poor , mom worked 3 jobs at once some times( way richer now) i can live happily just doing free things, hanging with friends, or just running / walking . I would say RN just because you hae so many opportunities afterwards...you can specialize and work in one area. Also you then have a greater chance of moving up in the ranks. Don't worry so much about failing...that is how you will fail. If you let yourself think you will fail then you will. Believe in yourself. A person can do anything that they want with a little ambition and hard work...just go for it!!! There is so much more that you can do with an RN than an LVN/LPN. The LPNs I know and work with pretty much do the same thing every day, they take blood pressure and vital signs, they answer calls from patients (but almost always transfer them to the doctor or RN who has more knowledge), they fax prescription refills and other forms. The truth is, a lot of them are probably qualified to do more, but it's not in their job description. I answered a question about RNs yesterday, and I hate to take the easy road, but I'll link to it becaus I think it gives a lot of details and other links that will hopefully be useful to you. The abridged answer, though, is that RNs can work in a variety of clinical and administrative positions. You can be on the floor of the ER making life-or-death decisions or sitting in a cushy office reviewing medical claims. You can go into sales and marketing for a drug company, work with just about any patient population in any specialty (HIV/AIDS, pediatrics, geriatrics, psychiatric nursing, nutrition and fitness, hospice, cardiology, surgery鈥? There's also a lot of options to further your education as an RN. If you really are nervous, or doubt yourself, talk to some other nurses or nursing educators. Once you have your LVN, if that's the route you choose to go, there are tons of LVN-RN programs out there, and you'll be about half way there and already working in the field, so don't think of LVN as "giving up." Still, I would encourage anybody to go for the RN or at least look into it more before deciding. Talk to nurses! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... check this link its good http://workathomedetailss.blogspot.com/... . |
