What is a Medical/Hospital Orderly?

I have heard about them, and I know they basically shadow a physican or a nurse. However I'm not finding much information on how to become one. I read that all you need is an associates somewhere, which I almost have. Or is it something completely different I need to do. I'm interested in it as a part-time thing. I was considering volunteering, but if I can get paid, why not.

it is the old name for male nursing assistants or pca's.
