RN Question? |
I am 1 year into a 2 year RN associates degree at my local community college. I have a strong interest in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. I don't really want to go into a Master's Program for Althetic Training at the moment. Does anyone know if there are sports medicine positions for RN out there? Do sports teams hire RN's to work the training staff? Or is it mostly limited to Sports Medicine Offices? As an RN you will find that employment opportunities exist in many organizations. But there are some caveats. Experience. If you want a nursing position working sports medicine, you must realize that the best way to get such a job is to have some experience in it. I can only assume that you currently have no experience. So after graduation, try to get a job in an orthopedists office. This will get you some basic level experience. Sports teams. If you want to work for an athletic team, you have to realize that who they hire is directly related to the person's training, experience, level of responsibility, and most of all their budget. As an RN you will be within the budget if they are looking at MDs vs PAs vs RNs. If they are looking for someone who can place casts on fractures then this is not really a job that is within your scope of practice. Look around and make inquiries. What you are interested is certainly possible, you may have to settle for routine nursing in a hospital or clinic for a year or 2 to get some basic experience first. |
