I am a self employed hygienist and need to know about insurance? |
I have just bought my first house and as i am self employed was wondering if its a good idea to take out some insurance in case i cannot work for whatever reason- as i dont get sick pay. does anyone know of any good companies that do this? Short term or long term disability is available at most health insurance companies. The worst part is that allot of time you won't get money in time to be of much use. Thats a tricky one, You can get mortgage protection if you've not already got it from sites like moneysupermarket.com or you could ask around in the forums on moneysavingexpert.com. Have a nose at those two :) http://www.moneysupermarket.com/asu/mort... If you have been self-employed for more than 6 months and you have a mortgage then you can take out mortgage protection insurance - have a look at www.portwood.co.uk/asuone.htm which gives various options. The policies DO allow self employed to claim. Alternatively you could look at an accident/ sickness insurance policy - these policies will pay out quicker if your occupation is not too manual e.g. there may only be a 7-day excess - with MPPI you have to be off work for 30 days. Benefits are paid for 12 months sickness and 24 accident. Portwood's also do PAS. You should also look at permanent health insurance which will cover long term disability i.e. up to age 50,55,60, 65 or whatever - you decide. Other policies available are critical illness insurance and private medical insurance. Try NEIFS on 0191 4952395 to have these explained more fully. Two appropriate cliches' "Your home may be at risk if you fail to keep up payments on a mortgage or loan secured on it" "If you can't afford all the insurance you need - you need all the insurance you can afford" Insurance Broker. |
