Can an RN work 12 hour shifts just fri/sat/sun? just wondering?

I will be a nurse in the next four yeas and I have a small child and maybe have one more in a year or two. I want to take them and pick them up from school and go to plays and soccer games, ballets, and music lessons. would this three day be a good schedule for me? is it possible for an RN to work just those hours? or home health RN.

most likely it's going to be up to the employer, but there is such a shortage for nurses right now let alond those that WANT to work weekends that as an RN, you can pretty much pick and chose your schedule.

Good luck and you sound like a great mother!
YES. i work at a hospital in Ohio and we all work 12 hour shifts. I'm not a nurse but all the nurses here work 12 hour shifts. the days you want, I'm sure places would need help on those days. start applying, but make sure you find about ahead of time about what shifts they offer.
goodluck
I don't see any reason that you can't if you find a place of employment that allows it. Most people do not want to work on the weekends...so I would say the chandes are very good that you could arrange that.
Depending on what state you are in - some hospitals offer a schedule called weekend option. You would work only 2 - 12 hour shifts and get paid a shift differential that would make your pay equal that of someone who works 3 -12 hour shifts. I live in Indianapolis Indiana and I only work Saturday and Sunday nights - 7pm to 7am and make full time pay and get full time benefits. You just need to check with the employers - I have friends in other states that have never heard of weekend option.
yes. there are Baylor programs which are 12/h A or Z shifts which are only fri/sat or sat/sun they pay at a 0.9 fte. i worked this for several years as i had small children at home. As of right now i have a position that is 12/h every fri/sat with every other Sunday. this was made for me by our scheduler. It is a nice position but any social life goes down the tubes as it is hard to find someone to work these hours for you. good luck i hope this helps
I dont see why not.im going to high school freshman and really intrested in being an RN so far ive learned if you cant get the hours that suits you best theres always more.If it were me id rather work in a hospital a doctors office would be panic attack central.RN is probably the best job for kinda your own hours.
Yes I am an RN and since there is such a demand for them...hospitals take what they can get. You could also consider spreading the shifts and doing night 7pm-730 am
