Do people not understand how hard the mathmatics of being an RT is and how much responsiblity you have? Intibating someone is not a piece of cake, neither is figuring out PEEKs or Ventilators and dealing with antagonistic, antigens, cholenergic receptors, etc....why would people assume it's simple? It's VERY hard!
I dont know, I never thought it was easy. I see how hard RT's work and I don't envy your job. I'll stick with nursing. Because most people think respiratory they think lungs. That's it therefore how hard could it be to study one body part for four years. They do not think about the affects of the rest of the body; nor oxygen levels, blood, density, depth, none of that. All they think of is taking a breath. Anesthesiologists have the same problem. You know, how hard could it be to put someone to sleep? I hear it all the time. It is not uncommon for people to think that something is not difficult when they don't understand the specifics of it. All you can do is educate people constantly about what it is you do and you will help people to understand your profession.
