What are the main differences between a midwife and an obstetrician?

Apart from the pay, and training times obviously. I am in the UK.

an obstetrician is a qualified doctor who has then trained in prenatal care of the mother to be and unborn child.
a midwife is specifically tained in the pre nursing care of the mother and delivery of the child. Pay reflects the difference in training.
An obstretician knows about the internal stuff and the midwife does not.
In the UK there are no male midwives.

MIDWIFE IS EASIER TO SAY AND SPELL!
The same difference as there is between a doctor and a nurse practitioner in any ward of a hospital. They have different levels of training and huge differences in responsibility for the patient.
