What is needed when doing Nursing? |
What is needed when doing Nursing? Do you really need to be SMART??? Compassion and patience. A strong stomach for all the blood and diaper changes for the elderly and the vomit. A good memory, strong understanding, not just in nursing but in medicine in general. Know your way around the human body, plenty of study time and how to make the patients feel comfortable whilst in your care. Hope this helps and good luck with your Nursing. Have a great day/night!!! xx K yes, you need to be smart. A nursing degree is 4 years of hard work....and after the school..... you will be taking care of sick people, when there is no doctor around. Im an ICU nurse. We take care of deathly ill people round the clock, and once or twice a day the doctor rolls in. The doctor bases their orders on the nurses observations and informtation. If the nurse is stupid, and hands over the wrong info.....problems! TLC (Tender Loving Care) A good head for figures A good grasp of english A lot of energy Patience Commitment The ability to leave work behind you when you go home and not take worries with you The ability to work well in a team The ability to work on your own initiative Common sense A sense of humour The ability to deal with body fluids, blood, vomit, faeces, urine, saliva, pus The ability to maintain confidentiality Able to think on your feet Able to multi task Able to think and plan ahead Be able to take responsibility Be able to communicate effectively Be able to work for long periods of time on your feet with few breaks Be assertive Deal with aggressive people Be competent with machinery and technical equipment Be computer literate Not be afraid to ask for help Be able to counsel people through times of grief, worry, upset and loss Be able to deal with dying, death and preparation of deceased people Deal with distressing sights and sounds Being alert at all times Able to pay attention to detail Not to let your frustration show when patients are stubborn, obstructive or refuse to accept your help Be a good listener Be able to talk to people from all walks of life, from surgeons to people that live in shop doorways Be able to be cheery at work even if your own life is making you sad Be a role model for others Provide support for junior members of staff and students Be prepared to study further to progress Above all you need to know it will be the right career for you, I would suggest you ask your local hospital if you can do some work experience or shadow a nurse for the day so you can get a taste of what it is all about. Good luck! A SOUL COMPASSION , LOVE IN YOU,RE HEART FOR OTHERS THIS IS WHAT OUR OLD PEOPLE IN NURSING HOMES NEED |
