Currently im a nursing student in NYC.?

If finish my school, and pass the RN exam, can i work as an operation room nurse directly? or i have to work as a staff nurse first? (are there steps each nurse have to go through before becoming an O.R. nurse?

Most hospitals will have you work as a graduate nurse on a floor with an RN that is established. Depending on the hospital you will most likely have to take additional continuing education courses and get certified in the OR. The likelihood of you going straight from school to OR is highly unlikely.

I want to go to ER when I get done with school but there are a lot of steps I personally will have to go through, like different certifications, to be able to work there.

Good luck Source(s): Fellow RN student
???? I should think you'd know this already....uh...okay.
I think a nurse who is an OR specialist has to specialize in this field. If you haven;t taken an OR classes, then no. You hav eot be trained and certified to become an RN that helps the doctor who goes under the knife. Just like a doctor who is an otorhinolaryxngoligist(hope I spelled that right), has to specialize in ears, nose a throat. When you specialize, that means you took extra college classes for it, and are good at it(and love doing it).
Know a little about medical field.
I don't know about NY but here in Texas the hospital you are taking your clinicals at, as you are about to graduate, will invite you to work in a particular department that you may have impressed them in. Hospitals observe nursing student very closely for possible recruits. If you impress them in any particular department, they will supply any additional certification you need to fill that spot.. I was invited to work in the Recovery room but my love was and still is geriatrics.
