How can I become a medical examiner?

How do I go about becoming one?

In almost all situations a medical examiner has to be a pathologist. A pathologist, in a simple way of thinking about it, is a medical doctor who has specialized in the interpretation of tests and biopsies. A pathologist can then further specialize in the process of autopsies and death investigation.

The overall process would be this...
College degree, (4ish years)
Go to Medical school. (4 years)
Do a pathology residency (3-4 years)
Do a forensic pathology fellowship (1 year)

And there you have it, you can now be a medical examiner. There are some rare cases of ME's being other MD's, not specializing in pathology, but they are rare. Source(s): Pathologist
Go to school. My sister is going to school for this. Just go to your local university and ask questions they should be able to help you.
