What are the education requirements to become a General Internist?

If possible, can you state specific requirements for both North Carolina and California?

Thanks for any and all answers..

Both states are the same: an internist is a medical doctor. So, 4 years undergrad, 4 years medical school and the 1 year internship, and 3+ years residency/fellowship and pass all the state medical board exams. Once you are licensed in one state you can apply for privledges in any other state.
