I'm starting school on the 20th to become a registered nurse & it's just now starting to hit me. I'm terrified. I'm taking my basics this semester & then the core nursing classes. I'm not worried about any courses except for the math. & Chemistry, probably because it contains alot of math in order to answer problems correctly. How hard are chemistry & college-level math courses? Any advice on mastering them?
All I have to say is that you need to do a few key things to help you remember what you've learned. Make flash cards and use them often but NEVER throw them away! Highlight everything in your notes that's important or that your instructor says you should know and do this with multiple colors for each subject! STUDY, STUDY, STUDY, need I say more! And check with each of your instructors first but if they don't mind bring a tape recorder to class for lectures and listen to it in the car or while taking a bath or cooking supper because there is not as much commotion then and it is much easier to concentrate! But always remember that you CAN make it, it may seem impossible while your in school but it does get easier and it is completely worth it!

I'd say that while I've never gone to nursing school, to study one's notes from class each night along with the chapters gone over and assigned ones and try to get into a study group with some classmates to cross reference one's notes and such. Perhaps also making flash cards out of lined index cards (preferably 4x6 as easier on hand) for vocabulary and short definitions. I wonder if the school offers tutoring if you do end up having difficulty with the math and/or chemistry. And perhaps with the chemistry, you can look at easier books such as from the children's section of the library to help you through.
