Is a Medical Biller Coder a Good Career?

Is a Medical Biller Coder a Good Career?

If you're taking a course, than I hope you didn't spend a lot of money on it. I am a med biller, and we had a girl come in that was required to do an internship before she graduated. It took her about one week in our office to figure out that she had learned a lot of things she was never going to use, and didn't know the first thing about actually billing anything. You don't have to memorize everything. Books are provided for you. And the codes can change every year. The rest is an aquired knowledge, you almost have to learn as you go.
But to answer your question, It can be a good career, as with any it all depends on your employer. It pays better than front desk or M.A. psositions, and you don't have to deal with the patience as much. Provided you've blilled correctly and they don't get an incorrect bill. (But they almost always THINK their bill is incorrect when in fact they just don't know their plan.)
If you are taking a course online thinking you'll be able to get plenty of work at home when you haven't done it before, then no. But if you are working in an office, then it can be.
