Describe a real incident in which you were treated rudely as a customer somewhere. How would you have handled it differently if you had been in the other person's shoes?
This hasn't happened to me but had happened to my mother multiple times. At the deli counter of the local grocery market, the cashier/butcher completely ignored his customers, my mother included. After waiting for the butcher to finish his phone conversation (which was not urgent or important on any level), my mother politely asked if he could help her. He gave her a smirk and told her to "hold on a sec". She had been standing in line for 10 minutes, and a couple other customers had joined her in waiting. The deli clerk finally decided to do his job, but attended to ANOTHER customer instead of my mother, who had been the first and only customer there for quite some time. My mom was definitely unhappy and quite loudly expressed her anger toward the man, who nodded and just ignored her. No, he was not old or hearing impaired, just plain lazy. She finally got her turn and was faced with a "whaddayou want, lady" attitude.
Had it been the other way around and I had been the deliguy, i would have at least had the courtesy to apologize for the long phone call and would have treated the customer kindly. Yes, its easy for me to say because i am not the deliguy, but honestly, he didn't really give a damn about how he was seen as an employee. I would bet anything his attitude would have done a complete 180 had his supervisor been there.
