Can you go from nursing school to med school when finished? How easily? |
I am in nursing school now and given that I've been in school for assorted specialties for nearly 10 years now I'm considering going on to become a doc. What's the best route to take? I just started nursing school but have worked in the medical field (EMS) for several years now. You get a little edge for being a nurse and having experience in the hospital, but not much. You will be competing against all the premed college seniors in the country and you have to take the premed science and math courses which are all more advanced than what is taught for nursing. Nursing basic sciences are pretty watered down compared to pre med courses. Having taken the nursing courses you will do better for the first couple weeks of the term, but then it will all be new stuff. Yes. I know very many nurses who have gone on to med school and become successful doctors. Working as a RN gives you an edge, esp with clinical skills and critical thinking when you are a doctor No, you cannot go straight from nursing school to med school. I think they should make a program for that though! I'm going to go back for my NP which I think is pretty close to being a doctor without all of the schooling and liability. RN 2 be...
