Career choice help please...looking into nursing?

i know im young...but i wanna start thinking about my future career. i know for sure that i want to work with people in need, especually children and special needs people.

i was thinking about nursing. can someone who has experience in the different feilds of nursing give me advice and tell me what its like for you?

Nursing is an excellent career if you love people, have patience for people who can sometimes be difficult, and if you are very organized and attentive to details.

The great thing about nursing is, you don't have to limit yourself to one aspect of nursing if you find yourself in a job you don't like. There are so many jobs out there beyond working in a hospital - if you continue your education and get a master's degree, the world is your oyster. You could teach at a nursing school, you could be a nurse manager, a case manager, etc. Then there are all the specialty areas of practice, pediatrics, geriatrics, obstetrics, oncology, cardiac, OR, rehabilitation, orthopedics, NICU, correctional nursing (in jails) etc.

And if you like traveling, become a travel nurse and see the country (and get paid really well for it!)

Many people go into nursing school with a good idea of what specialty they want to pursue. Some of us find during clinical rotations in school that maybe what we thought we wanted isn't really what we thought it would be. And that's ok, because as I said, there is SO much variety in what you can do with your degree. Source(s): RN
My comment to anyone who asks me about nursing is always the same: Don't do it if there is anything else that will make you happy. I love nursing, but you have to love it a lot to survive the pressures of working in it. I don't have any experience working with children, but I doubt a children's hospital is any different from the rest. The only other nursing jobs with kids I can think of would be with a school district or in an orphanage somewhere. On the other hand, there are teachers and social workers who specialize in working with children and special needs kids. Have you considered that? But if you do go into nursing, I hope you will be happy in it. It is possible, but it takes a lot of grit.
I would NOT go into nursing, it is pitiful the amount of work and stress that we undergo every day. The amount of liability and the possibility of being sued is always on ur mind and adds to the stress. This career sucks basically, it wouldn't if some changes were made, but as of right now, I would not do this over again.
i'm just 14 and want to do nursing too but maybe you can specialize in pediatrics.....

good luck! bye!
