How do you become an ultrasound tech in Oregon? |
How many years? Can you get your education online? What schools? Thanks for the info! :) Gus Oregon does not offer one single accredited course in sonography. You don't want to waste your time on a non-accredited, on line program. If you attend a program which is not accredited, you are wasting your time and money. After graduation from one of these programs, you are not allowed to take your registry (licensing) exams, UNTIL you have worked in the field of ultrasound for a full year. The catch is, you will have major problems finding someone who will hire you if you do not have your license. You can go to the following site and search "diagnostic medical sonographer" and surrounding states to see if there is an accredited program near you. If not, can you relocate for schooling? I don't believe that one can get an education in ultrasound technology from online and those 'online schools' such as penn foster, stratford career and university of phoenix are not really seen as reputable by employers. And please also stay away from those private schools but instead look for one at a community college or state college or university. I'm sure that one must take physics if even 'technical physics' and other science courses and have a great command of anatomy and physiology. I'm not sure, however, what the job prospects currently are.
