Nurse wanting more hours? |
Hi there. I am working 24 hours a week at the mo but really need to work 36 for fincantial reasons. The place in which i work is already overstaffed and has no more extra hours on offer. I am wondering whetehr to look for a new job entirely or to perhaps sign up to do some agency nursing on my days off? Are there any nurses out there that could advise me? Thanks x Sign on with an Agency Full Time. A lot of Agency Nurses earn DOUBLE what the Hospital's own Nurses do. you should sign up for some agency nursing, its flexible hours and its well paid. good luck xxx take it you don't work in england?! We are far from overstaffed but main problem is funding for employing more much much needed staff What about NHS professionals? Well, i know the trust i work in is only recruiting internally cos of the job freeze. I used to work for a private agency and they throw lots of work your way when you join up...but it soon dwindles to nothing after a while if you are picky with your hours. Have you tried NHS professionals...or a part time job banking somewhere else like a nursing home? This can be quite tricky if you are working for an NHS Trust as it may be written into your contract that you cannot work for an outside agency, best to read through your small print. I you are in the private or social sector this should not be so much of a problem and you should be able to supplement your hours with nursing agency work. The nurses that I work with in hospital who want to do extra hours have joined the staff bank, the pool of nurses who are available to do extra hours above their contract. They can pick and choose the hours they work in addition to their usual job. Most of them only work the extra hours on the ward they are already employed on and cover sickness and annual leave etc. Some will go onto other wards and work as well. Another alternative is to find an extra job that is only one or two shifts a week and that fits in with your current work, that would depend on your shift pattern of course. For example you may be able to pick up some hours in an out patient clinic or in a doctors surgery. Good luck! |
