Is it difficult for a person to get a job as a MA once they've finished school for becoming a Medical Assisant |
I am interested in going to school in becoming a Medical Assistant. I live in Michigan and the economy is extremely bad here. It's really difficult for people to find jobs in Michigan. And I am interested in going to school to become a Medical Assistant and I am really worried about whether I am going to be able to get a job as a MA once I've finished school. i think it depends on where you live. i'm not sure how the job market is out there in Michigan, but California has an abudance of MA jobs. Source(s): i recruit MA in California and Utah I am a CMA and my advice to you would be to spend another couple of semesters in school and be an RN. Medical Assistants do not make much money, and get no respect in the health care industry. We are viewed basically as a nurse's aide. It was very hard for me to get my first job. It helped that I had a 4.0 GPA and an instructor that helped me get my foot in the door. A nurse, espcially an RN will have no trouble getting in. Lots of hospitals will actually give you a grant to go to school if you commit to working for them for a period of time. Take the advice of an unhappy medical assistant who regrets her decision - Be A Nurse! it shouldn't be hard to get a job as an MA, but more to the point, if you want to make good money, I suggest you go to school for RN instead. I am a MA and the money isn't very good. I wish I would have become a RN instead. I've heard that there are not too many jobs for MA's (including medical billers and coders). Some say that in the least, go for LPN (licensed practical nurse) and other postees say to go the extra mile ( or 4 ;) and get the RN (registered nurse) schooling. LPN programs tend to be offered thru the local county vo-tech school. The RN programs may be offered thru the local community college. For more general career info: US occupational outlook handbook www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'licensed practical nurse' or 'registered nurse'. Wishing you the best!
