What do medical assistant do?

What do medical assistant do?

They take your blood pressure, weight, pulse, temps etc. they also help in office work like billing, making appointments etc.
鈾?Medical assistant are the people who go into the room before the doctors. They take all the vital signs such as [[height, weight, BP, Respiration, Pulse, etc]]. They also administer the eye chart, cathedars, are CPR certified, first aide certified, give shots & immunizations, take blood, do EKG's, etc. Its a wonderful field to be in and Medical Assistants are on the rise! :-)
鈾?Currently in college to become a Medical Assistant
Medical assistants can do a number of things. They do things such as weigh ins, check blood pressure, take vitals, ask initial questions before the doc comes in to check on you. Medical assistants can also do scheduling and medical filing too.
As you have read in the other responses, medical assistants work in Doctor's offices. I went to school 16 years ago for that and have only drawn blood (so there are a few other options). The program is roughly 18 months from last I heard. I would look into becoming an LPN and then later you can move on to be an RN if you want. An LPN has a much larger job market to choose from and the pay is more. You would also be able to transfer your credits one day if you choose to go back to school.
To add to what the others have mentioned, I've heard that there are not too many jobs for medical assistants these days (including medical billers and coders). If you still do want to get training in medical assisting, perhaps you can go to a lesser expensive school such as thru the local community college (perhaps non-credit course) or the county vo-tech school. At least if one has such a difficult time finding a job, they won't be in debt thousands of dollars. And please stay away from those 'online schools' such as penn foster, stratford career and university of phoenix as they are not generally seen as reputable by employers.

Here is a website for general career info: US occupational outlook handbook www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'medical assistant' or such.
