I am starting to take a program to become a clinical medical assistant next month. What can I expect the job? |
to be like when I start and what is the average salary for a Medical asst.? Average salary, depending on where you live is $10-12 an hour to start. Some places pay less because of no experience. Hopefully you will have clinical experience through the course you are taking. All you do is help patients get thru a clinic all day long as effortlessly and with little mistakes as possible. You call them in when it' their turn, take them to an examing room. Chart why they are here, take vitals, and tell them the doctor will be with them shortly. You also call in meds to the pharmacy, return doctor's phone calls, submit charts for billing. If you have blood and x-ray knowledge, you may be doing some of that also. Not anything like school was. Most likely you'd be working in a Dr.'s office or clinic. It's a very fast paced job that requires alot of multi-tasking. As well as interaction with people from all walks of life with all different problems, attitudes, etc.. Hours and sometimes the entire day at a stretch without breaks. Doesn't really pay all that great for the work you do. But if money isn't the issue, and you're doing it because you like helping people and can handle the "rush" of it all, it could be a great job for you. Average pay is about $7-10/hr average. www.bls.gov This is the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics website.
