Do you think it is too late to start a new career all over from scratch.?

When I left school I wanted to become a nurse but my Dad said you're not going to nursing college, you're going to get a job. So I got a job at the local newspaper and went to college part-time to become a Graphic Artist because it was related to my job at the newspaper. Now I am 36 and I want to be a nurse but I feel I am way to old to start again. What do you think? Is it too late for me to become what I have always wanted to be. I wouldn't know where to begin.

It's not too late to go back to school and get a degree whether it's nursing or any other course...the questions you have to answer really are the ff: are you prepared to take on a vocation that will stretch the limits of your patience, do you have an open mind to anything, what is your main reason why you want to become a nurse? Financially yes health care is the way to go but I also have to remind you that nursing is truly hard work, you will deal with angry patients and family members, co-workers that are bitter and tired, shortage in staff meaning you may have to work by yourself and do everything that 3 people should do in 8 hours, always be on the look out that you may lose your license in any event that you make a mistake or someone makes a mistake and cost you as well...Nursing is a thankless job most of the time but if you are up to it then go for it. I am a nurse and currently working in a nursing home taking care of 40 patients with 20 staff members under my supervision, the work is stressful but bottom line at the end of the day if I see one patient happy and content of the service I provided it's all that matters...another thing is to check out nursing schools and compare the preparation courses with what you already have...check out the schools and which hospitals they are affiliated with...so good luck!!!36 isn't old at all. I would recommend a book called "What Color Is Your Parachute" by Richard Nelson Bolles. It gives you a lot of advice on changing careers.

It's never to late! There is such a shortage of nurses that many places are providing speedy courses to get them into the field. Do some research! And GO FOR IT! Good luck!
