Can I become a Veterinary Technician with a pre-vet degree?

I'm wanting to do something in the Veterinary field. I've read about vet tech a little bit and was wondering if the career could be granted with just a pre-vet degree. The college in my hometown only offers this vet-related degree.

I don't believe so. A pre-vet degree is typically the prerequisite courses needed to at least apply to vet (medical) school such as chemistry, biochem, biology, microbio, physics, calculus (just as an ex). A vet tech may have prereq's as well but probably not the same and each program usually has their own admissions requirements and then core, technical courses.

Here is a website for general career info -- US occupational outlook handbook: www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'vet technician'.

US colleges and universities: www.utexas.edu/world/univ

And please do stay away from those 'online schools' such as penn foster and stratford career as employers don't usually see them as reputable.
