Moving forward in health career? |
Hello, My fiance is a CNA and wants to move up on her career. She has about 5 years experiance in this field. She does not want to go to school to pursue a RN career. She would like to stay in medical field. Any suggestions as to what avenues she can pursue? If she enjoys the nursing field, perhaps LPN (licensed practical nurse) would be a stepping stone to a job that is further up on the hierarchy. I'm not sure of the job prospects though short of going for her RN, LPN would be the next position in line if wanting to stay in the nursing field. They typically offer LPN programs thru the local county vo-tech school for a much less expensive price in comparison to those private schools. For general career info: US occupational outlook handbook www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'licensed practical nurse' or whatever other career field that she is interested in. Physician Assistant. I hear they make great money Respiratory Therapist, Occupational or Physical Therapist, Radiology Technician, Laboratory Technician, Social Worker, the list is very long. Tell her to talk to a counselor at a college that she is interested in. I can only say, pick a company that gives you the chance of performing, and if I should recommend one - it will be http://www.dakousa.com/. New, hot on the market and very progressive. I would send a CV and motivation - but be prepared to go back to school, just in workings hours. Good luck to your girl friend. I am also a CNA. The only way you can move up from that is to go to school. I love my job. I worked in nursing homes for 7 yrs. and I knew what i didn't like so i found a way to do what i like but make decent money at it and feel good about myself. I became an independent provider. This is through the state you live in (but you are not a state employee) your basically have your own business. you make your own hours and where you wanna go. I feel it almost the same as home care. to make it plain english about pay is you'll make roughly $15 per hr. but you do your own taxes b/c you are you own business. in ohio i speak to carestar. it may/maynot be different in your state. but she should deffinately check it out. if any questions you may email me on this subject. Medical secretaries (ward clerks) in the hospital setting make a decent living. Medical transcription is another field to look into, as well as phlebotomist or dialysis technician, pharmacy technician. All of these jobs can be on the job training or 1-2 year certificate/degree. RN is the next step from what I know. |
