Can someone please tell me can Pharmacy Technicians advance further in their career? |
I am interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician and I would like to know can Pharmacy Technicians be promoted to higher positions? And although I know neither field pays much money, which are there better opportunities in, Pharmacy Tech or Medical Assistant? I am a pharmacy tech and lemme tell you, I don't make sh*t. The pay scale for pharmacy techs is between $10 and $16 an hour, and the market is oversaturated. I'm actually switching careers right now; I'm going into surgical technology and become a scrub nurse. Any Medical job is a GREAT choice and you can always advance as long s you are willing to go to school. Most companies will pay for your medical school for advancement as long as you stay with there company. I am a nurse and I love my job. I went from LVN to RN to bsn all paid for by my work and I make a great living. I know I can go anywhere I want to go in the medical field. pharmacy technician is promotable, the field you're in is vast, there is so many opportunities in the medical vocation, but that's up to you. I have been a CPhT for almost a year and 1/2 and got a promotion to work at the hospital..I love the hospital...but unless I go to the IV room (which I won't because I don't understand the math to get the dosing right)..I will never be a tech I (the highest pay rate) at our hospital....so I'm considering changing to a HUC position..health unit coordinator...I don't make a lot.....a huc doesn't either but I think it would help me more.....I plan on keeping my CPhT license up even if I don't work in the pharmacy anymore... good look to you...(I would look at Medical assistant) I have heard that there are not too many jobs for medical assistants (as well as medical billers and coders) nowadays. If you would like to get training for either field, please go to a lesser expensive school such as thru the local community college (perhaps non-credit course) or county vo-tech school. At least one won't be in debt trying to pay back school loans while looking for work, know what I mean. For more general career info: US occupational outlook handbook www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'pharmacy technician', 'medical assistant' or such. Good luck in your endeavors! |
