Nurses, do you feel that you are respected as a professional at your place of employment? |
Do you feel the doctors treat you respectfully as coworkers? The way the Dr.'s treat the nurses tends to be a product of the institution. Every hospital seems to have a contingent of "good 'ol boys" that are in their eighth decade or more which have set in place a decorum for interaction. If doctors and residents have a methodology of disrespect for the nursing staff, woe be to them because we all know who really run the show. Take back the power :) it aint the drs im concerned about, when they're jerks im not surprised. Its the admin that i have the biggest problem with. The half-wit nurse managers with too many letters after their name, who poison the environment, sabotage morale, which then causes burnout and disruption to pt care. ITS (ivory tower syndrome), worse than new graditis I have absolutely no complaints about my workplace. I work in a labor & delivery unit. Almost all of the OBs and midwives are on first name basis with the many nurses, we all hang out and attend social events outside of work, etc. There is no underlying tension because of some invisible hierarchy or power. I feel very fortunate to work where I do. For the most part, nurses dont GIVE the respect they should. |
