If i want to become an RN do i have to be a LPN first? |
If i want to become an RN do i have to be a LPN first? The only practical benefits for getting your LPN first is so that you can get to work and maybe your facility has a tuition reimbursement program that will help pay for your RN. Also, if you are planning on attending a 2-year RN program, these programs fill up fast in some areas of the country. Many people are going the LPN route first, because the LPN-RN completion programs have less demand and it's easier to get admitted to a program. Source(s): RN No, but it would be helpfull :) Nope, but why wouldn't you want to? You can take the board exam (or maybe challenge it, in some states I believe) and work as an LPN while you are finishing your nursing program. Lots of nursing students take the required classes to be a CNA first, then LPN, then RN. It gives them a little boost in salary while they are going to school, and shows them what duties the others have to perform - so some of them don't get nearly as snobby once they have their degree. You don't have to be an LPN first...why don't you just go straight for the RN program if that's your ultimate goal? I always tell people I work with who wants to be a nurse to shoot for the stars and aim high! |
