Do RN's assist in surgery? |
I am starting school and I cant decide if I want to go for surgical technology or RN specializing in orthopedics. Do RNs specializing in orthopedics assist in surgeries? They CAN but generally don't. The Surgical Tech does all that. In the O/R the RN pretty much keeps track of all the meds used, counts the sponges, and does the paperwork while keeping up with all the vitals and answering the doctor's cell phone. RN gets paid buttloads more though. Source(s): Surg. Tech. no, they give meds, monitor vitals, and pass instruments to the docs. any nurse in the OR assists in surgery... you stand in one spot and listen to the doctor shout orders and pass him surgical tools. no you do not actually get to cut or anything like that on a patient. sometimes you might be asked to hold something (like a limb, organ, etc...) so the doctor can get better access to whatever he's doing surgery on... mostly nurses are responsible for setting up and tearing down the operating room, recording vital information, charging the patient for supplies, and supplying the doctor with what he needs to do his job. nursing degree |
