What is Registered Associate Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker?

what kind of jobs do they do and how much do they make? Are they nurses or is nursing experience required?

Nursing experience is not required to get a degree in social work. As the other person mentioned, to become a licensed, clinical social worker (LCSW) and subsequently master's in social work (MSW) one must obtain their master's degree. First getting their bachelor's degree in 'something' and then applying for the master's program(s). There is reportedly a high burn-out rate among those that work in the field of social work (as well as those in nursing) dealing with those in unfortunate situations and having a variety of mental health problems as well as socioeconomic oppression.

There are bachelor degree level programs in social work (BSW) but that level may have less job opportunities and a more limited scope of practice, namely not being permitted to open up a private practice and give an official mental health diagnosis as the person with an LCSW/MSW can. There may also be some master's degree programs in social work that have a fast(er) track for those who already hold a bachelor's in social work. I'm not sure what a registered associate social worker is but my best guess is it is a bachelor level social worker/ case manager at the licensed social worker or licensed social work associate level. I do know a licensed clinical social worker has to have a masters in social work degree to possess that level of license. A social worker is different from a nurse. Jobs vary; some work in hospitals, schools, special populations (pregnant teens, disabled kids/ adults, autism), the courts, state agencies, etc. Lots of opportunity but not lots of money typically. Salary is based on education and work experience. A bachelor level worker with no experience could earn somewhere around $30,000 a year. a master's level worker could earn $40,000 - $55,000 depending where you work, level of experience and education, and what state your in. It really depends on a lot of different factors. If you're really interested in social work, check out local colleges or career centers for specifics in your area.
