Does a family physician have the right to choose what times their clinic will be open? |
I want to work 8-10 hours a day, does opening at 8am-4pm sound like a good idea? Also, is it easy right after you become a family doctor to get a clinic of your own. As a business owner, set the hours that you want to work; however, with the majority of families needing two paychecks a practice that is not open outside of standard business hours may be less likely to grow. Early appointments before 9:00 a.m., late appointments after 5:00 p.m., and weekend hours (9:00 a.m.-noon on Saturdays) will make it easier for a larger pool of patients to utilize your services. Consider opening early one day a week and closing late one day a week even if going forward with an 8:00-4:00 schedule. the have a right to choose, a right to open early, a right to close late, and vice versa. the question if it is right or wrong. to get a clinic takes some time as you have to get the medical boards approval. also, they have to inspect your home or clinic to decide if it is the right size, place, etc. If it is your own clinic you can set your hours anyway you want. If you have the financing to open your clinic right after becoming a family doctor, I say go for it! Why work for some else? Just remember the first years may be tough getting established and building a practice. Good luck! You will have to talk to the local health primary care trust. They are the people that sanction surgeries or clinics and can also advise on opening hours tThe hours should be those that suit your patients rather than yourself...4pm closing seems a bit early.. People like to visit after work without taking time off .. Better times would be say 8am to 12 midday and 4pm to say 7pm. Only 7 hours but more suitable to the patients .Most newly trained GP's usually start in a group practice then get their own surgery a few years later . PS This refers to UK by the way. You can work any hours you want. Rent an office and open shop. You do not want an office then run the store out of your home and make house calls. What ever you want to do it is your business and store... Hire people if you want.. Yes. My Mother in Law is a Pediatrican with her own practice. Some days she begins seeing patients at 9 others at 10. Somedays she is done seeing patients at 3 others at 5 or 6. There is no law that says you have to work a certain amount of hours. It is your own business, you make up the hours that works best for you. Most doctors do not get right into a private practice. Many will join a practice, build up patients and experience beyond their residency etc.. Also, keep in mind that beginning to see patients at 8 AM is not really the feasible depending on the type of doctor you are. As I mentioned before there are days my Mother in Law may not see her first patient until 10 AM, but before that she is making her rounds at the hospital. there is no law governing what hours a doctors office has to be open, and after you become a family doctor getting a clinic of your own is easy if you go into debt up to your eyeballs, but along with your college loans that probably wont be too feasable for a few years |
