Medical Assistant Jobs in Georgia? |
I just finished my courses in medical assisting in NYC and i am about to receive my degree. I haven't gone for my certification test yet. I was told that I have to be certified for phlebetomy, ECG and then medical assisting. Is that true? Or can i just take the medical assisting state exam? How much is it to take the test and what book can I use to study for the test? Is it easy to get a job as a medical assistant in austell, marietta, smyrna and atlanta areas in georgia? What can I do to find a job quick when i move to georgia? Om scared of drawing blood. What kind of medical offices i can work for that hires medical assistant that don't draw blood? What offices can i work for where the nurses are the only people responsible for drawing blood in georgia? My friend has 2 years medical assisting experience in NYC and she is moving to Georgia with me. How much can she ask for at a new job in georgia? 10 points to the best answer. Thanks I think I have answered one of your questions before about medical assistants in GA. I am a CMA in North GA. I draw blood, do EKGs and sometimes vital signs. I am working as a Unit Secretary with clinical duties at a hospital. My first job was strictly clinical at a primary care office. You dont have to be certified in phlebotomy to draw blood. It was included in my training at school and I had to check off on it. I am a very good phlebotomist, but it didnt happen over night. I was so nervous when I first started, I went home and cried when I didnt get in the vein! Now I can almost hit any vein. Dont be afraid to do phlebotomy. Skill comes with time and practice. You dont have to be certified in EKGs either. The girl who trained me on my 1st job was only a high school grad with on the job experience only. She did just about everything there was in a back office, and front also. In the areas you are talking about, there should be plenty of jobs open for a medical assistant. I know you and your friend will be successful in your job search in the Atlanta area. Good luck to you! You need to check out the state site for the requirements that you're asking about. It will have all of your answers there, and it's answers you can trust. And as for finding out how much med assists make in that area, call up a hospital there and ask for a med assist and ask them the questions. There's really no other straight way to go at it, because I encoutered that problem when I moved from one state to another when I tried to just do research myself, got to the state, and the people in my field were only making half of what the intrnet claimed "the avg" made. I really wouldn't trust any 'job offer' or lead from a message board or chatroom as one never knows who is actually behind the screen name :) To find out about cerficiation(s), how about contacting a non-profit medical assistant organization such as a certification or registration board for MA's. If you are really uncomfortable doing phlebotomy, drawing blood, perhaps you can look for positions that don't require the MA or clinic worker to do such tasks such as medical office receptionist or ekg technician. I'm not in the field but many here have said how difficult it can be to obtain a MA position. Perhaps you can take another job with a different title and "get your foot in the door" that way. I wonder if any hospitals in georgia have ekg tech or medical office/medical records (also referred to as health information clerks though you probably already know that :) positions. Here is the website for the American Association of Medical Assistants to try to find info on certification: www.aama-ntl.org/ and just click on 'state and chapter support' How about going to yahoo.com and typing into search 'medical assistant and atlanta, georgia' for example. Perhaps there are some temp job agencies that you can registered with though it's not a guarantee for job. Wishing you the best of luck with job hunting and your move! |
