What is the best nursing career out there and how long do you have to spent in school?

I'm a highschool senior who is haven trouble figuring out what I want to be.

The term "Best" is very relative, when it comes to picking a field in Nursing. This is a very demanding curriculum and career so .....If you're thinking about Nursing, I advice you to volunteer at your hospital first and then make a decision, this is not like a liberal arts major or even like other science majors than changes can be made on a whim.
Another thing is that you HAVE to get ACCEPTED into a Nursing program, 90% of the time you have to complete prerequisite classes before applying to the program. Unless you're going for a bachelors degree, at that time it really depends on the school.

To get an RN licence is rougly 3 years (ideally 1 year of prerequisites and 2 in the program itself) getting you the associate degree in science of Nursing, making you eligible to take the RN-CLEX which is the licensing test and depending on your score you'll be licenced by the state.

If you're going for your bachelors most likely you'll be taking your prereq's along with your Nursing classes and your clinicals (roughly 4 yrs if you dont repeat any classes) and just like in an ADN once you complete the program take the N-CLEX and get your license. YOU CANNOT PRACTICE WITHOUT A LICENSE BY THE STATE.

There's, of course, plenty of advanced Nursing degrees from Midwife to Certified Nurse Practitioner and they practice just like MD's do, depending on what field of medicine they're in. The highest paid is Nurse Anesthetist at roughly a 100 thou a year. These degrees take 2 years to complete just like any masters program.

Hope this helps Source(s): Sophmore Nursing student.
