Physicians Assistant???? |
I would like to know specifically what are the duties, what is the average starting salary, and how much school do you actually need. Please!!!!!! 1. Schooling: a few schools are still a 4 year Bachelor's but most are a 2+ Master's after a bachelors (in a science major usually). These are dedicated PA schools. Every state has at least one and you can find out their requirements by contacting them, their state society (like for example the Maryland Academy of PAs) and the national academy: the American Academy of PAs. There are PA 1 year residencies for someone interested in a specialty as well. 2. Most require some sort of medical experience in any field. 3. Graduate from a PA school and take and pass the certification exam. 4. The average salary varies widely with the field, specialty, location (hospital, clinic, Dr's office etc) and amount of experience or training. The salary should be about $40.00 to $60.00/hour plus perks. (roughly) 5. As to specific duties: roughly the PA is trained in primary care but can specialize in any field. They are legally able to do whatever their supervising physician is able to do with the appropriate training. They treat, diagnoses, do procedures (for example suture, intubate, chest tubes, joint taps, start IVs, etc); interpret test results, give & prescribe medications.....information from the academies will give you more info.
