Is anyone out there a PSW or RPN?

Personal Support Worker
Registered Practical Nurse.
I'm in my final year of school for Medical Administration, but I am thinking that I would like to get one of the above diplomas as well. The PSW program is only one year long, and I would like to work in an old age facility. What do you think is best for my situation? I can't decide. I am leaning towards PSW...even though I think that they pay RPN's more money.

Congrats! You've taken the first step towards a fantastic career. I know it is generally quicker to get your PSW but you'll have a lot more options if you go the RPN route.

Geriatrics (working with the elderly) might appeal to you right now but if you change your mind a RPN will allow you to move on while a PSW will limit your options. Yes, RPNs are paid more, so that might play into it for you as well.

Other things to consider : Length of program, cost, career maneuverability and of course ~ personal satisfaction!

Best wishes and good luck on your choice! Source(s): nurse for many, many years.
