Can I quit my job and get unemployment under these conditions? |
I am a security officer in NY and I've held the same job for the past 2 1/2 years. In that time I have always had health insurance provided to me through my employer. A new security company came in a few months ago and took over the contract where I work and when I was "interviewed" with the new company they said my pay rate would stay the same and that I would still have medical insurance provided for me. It's been 2 months since they took over and I still don't have any medical insurance. They are now saying that if I want it I will have to pay $80.00 a month. If they had told me this 2 months ago I never would have agreed to work for them. Any help here is greatly appreciated. if you didnt sign a contract stating that they would provide the insurance then they can say they never said that Don't you belong to a union? I would check with an employment attorney to see if this is legal. It does not sound correct. Technically, medical insurance is being provided for you. You just have to contribute to the premiums. They aren't going back on their word. They probably would deny the unemployment charges because they have a job for you and you chose to leave. If they fire you, then you can get it or if you are found to be partially disabled in a way that prevents you from doing all of the work of your job but not completely disabled. Nope. You can only collect unemployment if you were let go/laid-off/fired through no fault of your own. You can't collect unemployment if you voluntarily quit unless the reason has to do with health/safety or harrassment issues.
